Two Coimbatore Corporation teams on Wednesday removed banners, hoardings and posters along two of the city's arterial roads.

A team lead by Town Planning Officer M. Soundararajan removed around 65 flag posts, hoardings and banners, most displayed by political parties, along Tiruchi Road.

Another team lead by Assistant Town Planning Officers S. Ravichandran and D.T. Jothilingam removed 60 wall posters and 40 hoardings on Avinashi Road.

Opposition

Mr. Soundararajan said the team faced some opposition near the Ramanathapuram junction, at the Tiruchi Road – Aerodrome Road junction and near the transport corporation depot near Sungam.

He said the operation would continue through the night.

The civic body's action comes after the Model Code of Conduct came into force on Tuesday evening, after the Election Commission of India announced the poll dates for the State Assembly election.
