Three maternity homes in Salem to get new buildings

Improving amenities: Salem Corporation has undertaken construction works for a new building for a maternity home at Kitchipalayam in Salem.
SALEM: Salem Corporation has started the construction works of new buildings for its maternity home at Kitchipalayam Narayanan Nagar.
The building works being undertaken at a cost of Rs. 39.95 lakhs under the Urban Health Revamping Scheme, will house all modern facilities including a surgery ward.
Besides this, two more maternity homes in the city under the scheme would be having new buildings.
“As the buildings have become very old, the Corporation has decided to construct new ones,” says Health Officer Dr. Porkodi.
The Corporation is having nine maternity homes besides other health centres of which seven fall under the Urban Health Revamping Scheme.
Renovated
The rest in Ammapet, Fort, Arisipalayam and Asthampatti will be repaired and renovated. “Already civil works in these centres have been started,” the official points out.
To cater to the health care needs of general public, the Corporation has undertaken a comprehensive development scheme providing the homes with latest equipment and other assistance.
