Deputy Chief Minister to inaugurate Corporation office buildings

Tuticorin: Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is expected to arrive in Tuticorin on August 5 for the inauguration of the newly established Corporation Office buildings near the old bus station, Collector G. Prakash, has said here on Monday.
Tuticorin, as a district was accorded with the status of a Corporation from August, 2008.
Financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 80 crore through various welfare schemes under several departments would be distributed by Mr. Stalin to the beneficiaries, he added.
Earlier, Mr. Prakash was honoured with a silver medal for having achieved the target of Flag Day fund collection for the year 2007.
Durai Ravichandran, District Revenue Officer, presented the medal to the Collector at Collectorate here on Monday.
During his tenure as the Collector of Tirunelveli district during 2007, Mr. Prakash exceeded a target of Rs.20, 69, 000 by achieving funds to the tune of Rs. 38, 97, 350.
During 2008, he collected funds amounting to Rs. 41, 58, 700 as against a sum of Rs.16, 68, 000, the target fixed for the year.
