THANJAVUR: As part of the infrastructure development works taken up in Thanjavur town for the millennium celebrations of the Big Temple to be held here on September 25 and 26, new sodium vapour lamps have been installed on the median of the medical college road here.

The four km road has been fitted with 135 caste iron poles which carry two sodium vapour lamps on either side on the meridian of the road. Each sodium vapour lamp is of 250 watts and when once in glow, entire road will be awash with yellow light.

Municipality has taken up the work and has erected the lamps till half of the length of the road from over bridge. "Thanjavur Municipality has asked for eight service connections for the 250 lamps.

We will provide the service connections as early as possible so that the lamps may start functioning for the celebrations" said Tamil Nadu Electricity Board sources.

Yet another major infrastructure development is the laying of roads at various places.

Raja Rajan Mani Mandapam has been given a face lift. Park around Raja Rajan statue near the Big Temple has also been improved.
