Kodambakkam bridge to be renovated

CHENNAI: Kodmbakkam flyover, opened to traffic 45 years ago to inter-link crowded residential and commercial pockets of Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam and T Nagar, is all set to undergo a facelift at a cost of Rs 4.74 crore.

Kick-starting the renovation works here on Thursday, Mayor M Subramanian said, “The civic body has allocated about Rs 8.39 crore for repairing the bridges in the city during 2010-11.”

Using micro concrete and wet wrapping technologies, the bridge, constructed in 1965, would undergo major restoration.

The existing strip seal joints and the storm water drains in the bridges would be replaced, Mayor said.

Renovation works have already commenced in Reserve Bank Bridge, Quaide Millath Bridge, Thiru Vi Ka Bridge, Chetpet Bridge and Central Railway Station bridge. It would take 12 months for the repairing.
