Chennai: The Chennai corporation council gave administrative sanction to conduct feasibility study on flyovers and pedestrians at 11 junctions on Wednesday. The civic body in its budget had announced the proposal to construct long flyover across certain areas to decongest several parts of the city.

The flyovers will be coming across Dr. M. G. R. Salai and Thirumalaipillai junction at Valluvarkottam, Madhya Kailash, St. Mary’s road, Virugambakkam Kaliamman road, Kodambakkam N. S. K. road and near Vadapalani depot and Kamaraj salai. Pedestrian subways on Purasawalkam High Road (Gangadeeswaran Koil Road) and Konnur High Road-Medavakkam Tank Road junction in Ayanavaram will also be under feasibility study.

The corporation council also adopted a resolution to form a separate department for managing Amma canteens in the city. In order to reduce the workload of corporation officers, a separate department headed by the additional health officer will be functioning soon to regulate the quality of food at the Amma canteens.

A total of 111 members will be recruited to work for the department and it is formed with an estimate of around Rs 2 crore. The head office of the department will  be at  Ripon Buildings.
