Panel approves mapping plan

Chennai, Nov. 18: Planning commission has sanctioned the prestigious project of computer-aided utility mapping for six cities, including Chennai. Under the project all-urban utility attributes are to be surveyed and integrated with Geographic Information System map supplied by National Informatics Centre.

A press release from the Ripon Buildings said the Chennai corporation has taken up the work of providing GIS services for 20 square kilometre area in zones three and four (Pulianthope and Ayanavaram) on pilot basis.

Hyderabad based Vision Labs Institute is assigned to do the sample survey and representatives of the institute will be doing the detailed survey of the properties to capture all the relevant data as per the tender conditions and will interact with the property owners in the city. Identity cards will be issued to these staff to do the survey work.

The staff will measure the dimensions of property in these two zones and also take photographs of property and may ask a few queries pertaining to the property. The corporation has appealed to the residents to co-operate with the field staff to capture the correct details of various properties in Pulianthope and Aynavaram, the release added.

Meanwhile, another press release from corporation said that following mayor M. Subramanian’s instruction, about 50 shops that were encroaching the busy Broadway bus stand were removed. Besides, Mr Subramanian suspended the local conservancy inspector for not protecting the corporation property, the release added.
