'Hogenakkal scheme to give fluorosis-free water'

CHENNAI: Fluorosis, the dental condition that is highly prevalent in Dharmapuri and adjoining areas in Tamil Nadu, will be eliminated when the Hogenakkal integrated drinking water project is implemented, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Managing Director of TWAD, said.

Inaugurating the sixth annual conference of the Tamil Nadu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Association at Kovalam, Bedi requested the participants of the meet to provide treatment at affordable cost to the common man.

He appreciated the role played by oral and maxillofacial surgeons in treating oral diseases, particularly cancer.

President of Indian Dental Association, Madras Branch, S M Balaji, urged surgeons to upgrade themselves by adopting modern day concepts.

He pointed out that present day reconstruction concepts, particularly the introduction of new bone protein like rhBMP2, have equipped the maxillofacial surgeon’s armamentarium with material that can synthesis the natural bone in the surgical site without adding any foreign body.
