Rs 1,295 cr for water projects

VELLORE: The State government has sanctioned the ‘Vellore combined water scheme’ project worth Rs 1,295 crore to cater to the drinking water needs of the district,  Announcing this at the inauguration of the Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram at Vengalapuram village near Tirupattur on Saturday, Deputy CM M K Stalin noted that 90 per cent of the project, which would meet the needs of more than 18.68 lakh people of the district, would be funded by the Housing And Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) while the State government would fund the rest. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board had already started a survey for implementation.

Criticising the pleas made by Law and Prisons Minister Durai Murugan and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S Jagathratchagan, who sought a water scheme for this district, Stalin said they had made this request despite being aware of the sanctioning of the project two days ago.
