Officials discuss methods to solve drinking water crisis
In a coordinated move, the district administration, Corporation authorities and other allied department officials discussed modalities to solve the drinking water crisis in the city.
Presiding over the meeting on Wednesday, Collector Anshul Mishra said that as a first step the officials should identify places where the problem was severe — ward-wise in city, municipalities and panchayats. Based on the assessment, the authorities should take action to sink borewells wherever feasible. In dry belts, the officials should opt for alternatives such as water supply through tankers.
Simultaneously, the officials should be entrusted with the task of assessing ward-wise population, and plan the frequency of distribution.

Public can contact 0452 2526888 or 2521444 round-the-clock to inform about water needs and register their names with the staff. Residents in the Corporation limits can call 0452 2530433, according to Mr. Mishra.
He added that squads would conduct surprise check on illegal tapping of water using motors.
Public can give information about misuse by any person and the details would be kept confidential.
He warned against those who indulged in selling water at a premium. Corporation Commissioner R. Nanthagopal, Additional Collector Arun Sundar Dayalan, PWD Executive Engineer Dhanapal, AD (panchayats) Sugumaran, RTOs Ravichandran and Kalyanakumar were present at the meeting.
