Rajapalayam MLA L. Gopalsamy addressing the community leaders assuring them to fulfill the basic needs of the town at a meeting in Rajapalayam on Sunday.

Two schemes are being undertaken to ease the drinking water crisis in the town and in villages falling under this constituency, said the local MLA, K. Gopalsamy.

Addressing the community leaders at a meeting here on Sunday, he said that the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, had ordered the officials to conduct a feasibility study for providing drinking water to the urban areas through the Tamirabharani Combined Drinking Water Scheme and to the rural areas through the Tamirabharani Mukoodal Combined Drinking Water Scheme.

Based on the observations of Municipal Chairman P.S. Dhanalakshmi and councillors at a council meeting regarding the places where pipelines and overhead water tanks with 10-lakh litre capacity should be established, municipal officials and the Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage (TWAD) Board officials had prepared an estimate, he said.

Mr. Gopalsamy expressed hope that the Chief Minister would sanction the works and grant funds soon.

These works would be taken up immediately and completed within a few months.

He said that efforts would also be made to desilt the channels between the Gandhi statue roundabout and Sammandhapuram.

The MLA pointed out that he had allocated Rs.5 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund for the construction of a common cremation shed with basic amenities like water opposite Ram Nagar on Senbagathope Road.

The Public Works Department (PWD) would take up the work soon.

Orders would be issued by the Chief Minister for the establishment of an electric crematorium here, he also said.

Officials were also exploring the possibility of laying a road to reach Tenkasi Road via Sammandhapuram.

The Collector and the Regional Transport Office would be approached for introducing mini bus service, he said.

All Community Public Welfare Association president Sethuramalingam, secretary Ayyanar, treasurer Balasubramaniam and several community leaders including councillors took part in the meeting.
