Virudhunagar Collector reviews water supply

Find solution on scientific basis, she tells officials

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Daily supply of water has been maintained at Sattur municipality and town panchayats of Sundarapandiyam, S. Kodikulam and Mallankinaru in the district.

The frequency of water supply in other towns was in the range of once in two days to once in 11 days.

The district headquarters, Virudhunagar, was the worst getting a meagre 45 litres per capita per day, where the people get water once in 11 days.

Chairing a review meeting on drinking water supply here on Tuesday, the Collector, Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan, asked the officials Public Works Department and the Department of Agricultural Engineering to find permanent solutions to water problem on a scientific basis.

She asked the officials to consider small combined water projects to mitigate water problems in villages.

Quantum of water supply in Sivakasi town was 74 LPCD, Rajapalayam 65 LPCD and Srivilliputtur 37 LPCD. All these towns were getting water once in four days. Aruppukottai was getting 47 LPCD of water (once in 7 days) and Tiruthangal was supplied 6 LPCD (once in 8 days).

The quantum of water supply in other town panchayats were in the range of 45 LPCD to 70 LPCD.

Officials from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), and Commissioners, Executive Officers and engineers of all towns were present.
