Metro rail work to hit water supply

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has proposed to divert the water mains and to interconnect the work with newly laid main at GST Road near Meenambakkam.

Due to this, there may be interruption in water supply said Managing Director, Chennai Metrowater. He further stated that the Chennai Metro Rail Limited has proposed to divert the existing 600mm dia and 450mm dia water transmission main and to  interconnect the  same with   newly laid main at G.S.T. road near Meenambakkam. 

The interconnection work will be carried out from 9 am on July 19 to 9 am on July 20.  Due to this interconnection work there will be no piped water supply during the above said period in the areas such as Alandur, Adambakkam, Balaji Nagar, B.V.Nagar, Nanganallur and K.K.Nagar in Alandur Area, Contonment Board, Officers Training Academy, Meenambakkam, Indian Airforce Station, Pammal Municipality, Anakaputhur Municipality, Pozhichalur Village Panchayat, Cowl Bazaar Village Panchayat, Munavar Avenue (Part of Pallavaram), Kannabiran Koil Street (Part of Pallavaram).

The public are  requested to store sufficient quantity of water in advance and also may contact the following numbers for the supply of water through water tankers for urgent requirements.

Residents of some areas in south Chennai will not receive piped water for 24 hours from 9 a.m. on Friday. Chennai Metro Rail Limited has proposed to divert the water pipeline and interconnect it with a newly laid one on GST Road near Meenambakkam, on Friday.

As a result of the work, there will be no water supply in Alandur, Adambakkam, Balaji Nagar, B.V. Nagar, Nanganallur and K.K. Nagar in Alandur, Cantonment Board, Officers Training Academy, Meenambakkam, Indian Air Force Station, Pammal, Anakaputhur, Pozhichalur, Cowl Bazaar, Munavar Avenue and Kannabiran Koil Street in Pallavaram. At last, Vedasandur gets protected drinking water

A five-decade-old struggle for protected drinking water by residents of Vedasandur has come to an end, thanks to the implementation of Cauvery Combined Drinking Water Scheme. With the implementation of the scheme, protected drinking water is being supplied from Thursday.

The TWAD Board officials stored water in two newly constructed tanks — each of one lakh litre capacity — at VOC Nagar and Kongu Nagar and supplied the water to residents in Vedasandur town on Thursday morning.

However, water could not be stored in a tank constructed at Martin Nagar, as it has come up on a private land, and a case is pending in court in this connection. Water supply will be made to all residents of the town in phases, said TWAD officials. On completion of the project, residents of Palayam, Oddanchatram, Sri Ramapuram and Kannivadi town panchayats too will get 70 litres of drinking water a day each and the people of 735 villages will get 40 litres of water a day each. A total of 3.5 lakh people will get protected drinking water under this scheme.

Three ground-level tanks and six overhead tanks and two pressure reduction tanks have been set up to streamline the supply. Eight pumps have been installed to carry water to the beneficiary villages.
