No water in Thorapadi for 2 more days

Residents of Allapuram, Thorapadi, Sainathapuram, Pananthoppu and parts of Virupatchipuram will have to wait for two more days, in addition to the six days, to receive water supply, as the pipelines to Keezhmonavur pumping station were found broken on Monday.

Water supply to these areas was suspended from Wednesday as the work of replacing the pipelines between Keezhmonavur and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, which were leaking for more than three months, was being carried out. On Sunday, the pipelines were being restored for a distance of 40 feet.

However, on Monday morning, the pipelines between Iraivankadu headworks and Keezhmonavur pumping stations were found broken. This affected the water supply to the areas as the work here has been extended by two more days.

The pipelines will be replaced for 15 feet at two places, officials said.

Three leakages in the Mettur — Salem — Attur Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) were attended by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) here on Wednesday and Thursday.

Sealed

Leakages were sealed at Thulasampatti and Palakaranur on Wednesday while the leakage near Dalmia Board on the Salem — Bangalore National Highway was repaired on Thursday.

A report on potholes along National Highway published in The Hindu dated September 11 had pointed out to the leakage in the main pipeline. Tyres were kept in the area to warn drivers.

Rubber rings

The concrete pipeline was laid about 20ft from the ground level 20 years ago. Workers found the rubber ring connecting two pipes worn out. Rain in the evening disrupted the work.

Final layer

Officials said that they expect the work to be complete by midnight.

The road would be re-laid soon and handed over to the National Highways Authority of India for finishing the final layer of the road, they said.
