Insurance cover for GHMC contract staff
GHMC has finally begun implementing the group insurance policy to all
the outsourcing employees working in the health and sanitation wings.
As many as 20,000 contract staff are said to be benefit
because of the agreement reached with the National Insurance Company
Ltd.
As per the policy, each staff member is entitled to get
Rs. 1 lakh insurance in case of any fatal accident, permanent total
disablement, Rs.50,000 for loss of limb and medical reimbursement in
case of hospitalisation.
The policy came into force following a representation
made by the workers union last year and was cleared by the standing
committee. Union representatives Vinay Kapoor, G. Mallikarjun and P.
Rami Reddy, received the agreement copy, Additional Commissioner S.
Aleem Basha said in a press release. Meanwhile, the government has
accorded administrative sanction to spend Rs. 4.85 crore towards the
first phase of road inventory and condition consultancy work in GHMC
area following a recommendation made by the Standing Committee few
months ago.
The total project to be taken up in two phases by the
chosen consultant is expected to cost Rs. 7.95 crore and the entire
money is to be borne by the municipal corporation. The money is to be
spent for preparation of detailed project report for arterial and
sub-arterial roads to an extent of 200 km expected to cost Rs. 1.54
crore and labelling and inventory survey of connecting and local roads
to an extent of 6,000 km costing Rs. 3.31 crore.
