“Keep environment free from mosquitoes”
Ensure cleanliness in accordance with health standards to prevent diseases, S. Madhumathi, Commissioner of Corporation, said.
People
should keep the environment free from mosquitoes, she said at an
awareness programme on dengue fever and rabies organised by Tuticorin
Corporation in association with the Department of Zoology at St. Mary’s
College here on Friday.
The Commissioner said they
had to shoulder several responsibilities to generate awareness among
residents of maintenance of cleanliness at public dwellings and
surroundings to prevent any outbreak of diseases. With a total populace
of 3,40,000 under Tuticorin Corporation limits, she said people should
cooperate with the officials to maintain cleanliness.

Saravanan, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Government
Medical College Hospital, Tuticorin, said dogbite victims should wash
the bitten spot with water for 15 minutes and consult doctor immediately
for vaccination. The victim should take four painless injections, which
could be availed at Government Hospitals and state government has set
aside sufficient funds to maintain adequate stock of rabies medicine, he
said.
