Kharar civic body gets new president
MOHALI: The councillor from ward number four of Kharar, Gurprem Singh, has been unanimously elected as the new president of Kharar municipal council (MC). The elections were held under the supervision of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Rajeev Kumar Gupta, who was appointed as convener for holding the election by district magistrate Parveen Kumar.
On June 7, Sukhwant Singh had resigned from the MC chief’s post, citing ill health. His resignation was accepted by the MC house on June 9 and sent to the director, local government, Punjab, for formal acceptance.
In his communication, Sukhwant, younger brother of Independent MLA from Chamkaur Sahib Charanjit Singh, had written that due to his ill health, he was unable to discharge his duties, because of which official work was suffering.
In February too, Sukhwant had vacated his post by delegating his power to MC senior vice-president Himmat Singh. In June 2009, then MC senior vice-president Roshan Lal was made the acting civic body chief.
Ujjagar Singh Badali, Morinda MLA, was also present on the occasion.
