KMC changes building renovation rule
Kolkata, 29 November – In a bid to relieve citizens from harassment while renovating buildings,
the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided that from now
citizens will not have to take permission from the KMC to renovate a
certain floor.

In a meeting held at the KMC headquarters between DGs and executive
engineers, the officials had set specifications for floor areas that
could be renovated without any permission from the KMC.
According to the new rules, renovation of 25 per cent of the floor area
on the first floor and 15 per cent area on the second floor can be
renovated without permission from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
People have to deposit Rs 100 for registration.
