KMC scraps Aadhaar card programme
Kolkata, 30 November – The process which was initiated following a meeting between gas dealer
agencies and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials a few
days ago to help people get Aadhaar cards from the offices of gas
dealers from 2 December has been cancelled.

The process was earlier initiated after the Centre decided to make
Aadhaar cards compulsory for providing various benefits like cooking gas
subsidy to the people.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided to scrap the programme following instructions of the Central government.
A senior Kolkata Municipal Corporation official today said earlier it
had been decided that city residents could complete the entire process
for an Aadhaar card from the offices of the gas dealers starting from 2
December.
