KMC to launch drive against illegal water connections
The Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar will launch a
special drive against illegal water connections from April 1, said
Municipal Commissioner M. Vanaja Devi
Expressing
concern over illegal tap connections causing loss to the municipal
corporation, she appealed to the residents to regularise their illegal
tap connections before March 31. The corporation would not only
disconnect the illegal connections after March 31 but also impose a
hefty penalty and take legal action residents who violate the law.
Addressing
a press conference here on Friday, she said that the municipal
corporation was spending Rs. 24 lakhs per month on purification,
filtration and supply of drinking water. She also appealed to the
residents to avoid wastage of water and warned of stern action against
those using motor to draw water from taps.
Sanitation drive
On
the sanitation front, the Commissioner said that they were planning to
reintroduce the two containers system and collection of garbage directly
from the generation point. Women self-help group members would be roped
in to educate the people on proper disposal of garbage and discourage
use of plastics.
Expressing concern over deviations
in the constructions, she said that they would strictly ensure that the
building plans approved by the municipal corporation are implemented in
true spirit by conducting field visits. Deviations in constructions
would not be tolerated and GO M.S. No. 168 will be implemented strictly.
