Kozhikode corporation plans gates at city’s entry points
Though the civic body had set aside around Rs 7 lakh to erect entry
gates and arches at the selected entry points at the corporation
boundaries in the 2012-2013 five year plan, the proposal has been
shifted to the next financial year considering the limited time got for
the project preparation and execution.
The project to erect
arches and entry gate was proposed by the working group for the art,
culture, heritage protection and beautification.
The civic body
would involve the public in selecting designs of the proposed entry
gate and arches. The locations of the entry gate and arches will be made
after holding talks with experts and corporation officials.
According to Kozhikode corporation
office, the city corporation has a total of 118.2 sq km area following
the merger of three grama panchayats of Beypore, Cheruvannur-Nallalam,
Beypore and Elathur with the corporation.
The boundary of the civic body begins from the Chaliyar river in the north to Korappuzha in the south.
Adv Chembil Vivekanandan, chairman of the Working Group for the art,
culture, heritage protection and beautification said that four to six
entry gates and arches will be installed on the roads which enters to
the city corporation limit.
“We have already held talks with
experts like architects and engineers and a detailed proposal will be
made by April. The entry gates and arches will be placed on the roads
where widening is not taking place,” he said.
