The repair work on the main water transmission line that began on
Friday morning was completed by afternoon and pumping restarted, Kerala
Water Authority (KWA) officials said.
The leak had been detected
two days ago on the main line supplying water from the Aruvikkara
reservoir to the city. As it had only been a minor leak, the repair was
scheduled for Friday after the previous day’s Independence Day
celebrations. “It was only a joint leak, so the work was completed and
pumping restarted by afternoon,” said a KWA engineer.
Areas coming
under the Pattoor-Palayam section (including Vellayambalam,
Sasthamangalam, Vazhuthacaud, Thycaud, Jagathy, Statue, Overbridge,
Bakery, Murinjapalam, Thekkumoodu, Vanchiyoor etc) and Kowdiar section
(including Kesavadasapuram, Pattom, Medical College, Jawahar Nagar etc)
had been notified as of Wednesday evening. Water supply was slated to
be restored by late evening on Friday, officials said.
