Lalur: corporation, KAU to sign contractual agreement

Thrissur: The Thrissur Corporation will ink a contractual agreement with the Kerala Agricultural University, the implementing agency of the Lalur Model Project for Solid Waste Management, by the end of this month.
This was decided at a high-level meeting convened at the behest of the Chief Minister in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
The Corporation and the Kerala Agricultural University had on July 30 signed an MoU in connection with the implementation of the project.
Fund transfer
Mayor R. Bindu said that signing of a contractual agreement with detailed terms and conditions between the Corporation and the KAU was necessary for the transfer of funds under the Kerala State Urban Development Project (KSUDP).
“The process will be completed by the end of the month,” she said.
According to the decision arrived at the high-level meeting, of the total cost estimate of Rs.9.4 crore, the Local Administration Department will provide Rs.3.92 crore for decentralised waste management under KSUDP. As much as 10 per cent of the project cost will be released in the first phase, sources said.
Meanwhile, Lalur Malineekarana Viruddha Samara Samithi said that they would not give up their struggle until the City Corporation found a lasting solution to the garbage issue.
