Lobbying on for TMC president’s post

Elections to the Town Municipal Council president and vice-president’s post has been scheduled for August 26.
The total strength of the council is 23 – JD (S) (16) and Congress (6) and BJP (1). With its impressive numbers, the JD(S) holds the key to power.
While the President’s post will be contested by candidates of general category. The vice-president’s post is reserved for Backward Class ‘A’ category.
It is learnt that the president’s post aspirants are lobbying with MLA G K Venkatashiva Reddy, who is yet to decide on the candidate, it is learnt.
Residents of the town which is afflicted with serious civic problems like bad roads, poor drains, pig and mosquito menace await the new president, who they hope, will put an end to these problems.
In Malur
The Malur Town Municipal Council will will vote for a new, second-term president on August 31. Many aspirants are vying for the post.
The president’s post is reserved for the Backward Class ‘A’ (woman) and the vice-president’s post for the general category.
Having its councillors in all the 23 wards, the BJP is looking forward for the second term.
In the first term too, the president’s post was reserved for woman for 30 months and Neelachandra was unanimously elected for the post. MLA Krishnaiah Setty had suggested the name.
No-confidence motion
However, following complaints that she was taking unilateral decisions, the councillors passed a no-confidence motion against her. She had served for over a year. For the rest 16 months, the rebel group made Susheelamma president against the legislator’s wish.
However, for the second term too, the president’s post has been reserved for woman which has obviously upset the male members.
They tried in vain to exert pressure on the legislator to change the reservation.
Apart from former president Neelachandra, other contender for the post are Ramakka, Amuda and Gulab.
