MADURAI: Elections to fill up vacancies existing till October 31 in
urban and rural local bodies of Madurai district will be held on January
10. According to a press release from Collector C. Kamaraj, elections
are to be held to fill up Kunnathur panchayat president’s post; one ward
member vacancy in Kottampatti panchayat union; three panchayat ward
member vacancies each in Alanganallur, Tirumanglalam and
Tirupparankundram panchayat unions; and one vacancy each in Vadipatti,
T. Kallupatti, Madurai West, Melur, Kottampatti and Kallikudi panchayat
unions. Vacancies in rural local bodies will be filled up through paper
ballot.
Electronic voting machines will be used to fill up a vacancy in
Madurai Corporation (Ward 45) and a member’s post in Palamedu town
panchayat. The last date for filing of nominations is December 29. They
will be scrutinised on December 30. Nominations can be withdrawn till
January 3 and results will be declared on January 12.
