Local body polls: 23.24 lakh voters in Thrissur district

Thrissur: The total number of voters in Thrissur district for local body elections is 23,24,939. Of them, 12,32,603 voters are women.
Among municipalities in the district, Guruvayur has the largest number of voters: 57,357.
Of them, 31,085 are women. Of the municipalities, Chavakkad has the lowest number of voters: 29,742. Of them, 16,574 are women.
The following are the number of voters in other municipalities—Kunnamkulam (43,270); Chalakudy (36,940); Irinjalakuda (49,348); Kodungalloor (48,308).
The number of women voters in the other municipalities is: Kunnamkulam (23,533); Chalakudy (19,353); Irinjalakuda (26,841); Kodungalloor (25,443).
The total number of voters in the 88 grama panchayats in the district is 18,22,234.
Of them, 9,65,544 are women. Of the grama panchayats, Mattathur has the largest number of voters: 35,472.
Of them, 18,448 are women. Among the grama panchayats, Athirappilly has the lowest number of voters: 7,204. Of them, 3,717 are women.
Training for officials
Collector and District Election Officer A.T. James said that posting of election officials would be completed by September 30.
He was addressing a meeting of returning officers for local body elections here on Wednesday.
Corporation, district panchayat, municipal, block panchayat and grama panchayat secretaries also took part in the meeting.
The Collector said the election office had received forms needed for the polls.
Stationery required for the polls would reach the district soon.
Training for election officials at the block panchayat level will be completed by October 16.
Ballot boxes are being cleaned up.
Four-member squads will be set up at block, municipality and corporation levels to ensure the model code of conduct is enforced.
