Drinking water dominates civic meeting in Tirupur
Mayor Visalakshi Appukutty has instructed the
Corporation officials to give respect to the grievances raised by
councillors on public issues and solve the problems as quickly as
possible.
The directive was issued during the
Corporation council meeting held here on Friday evening after the
councillors cutting across the party lines accused that lackadaisical
approach of officials had been impeding the execution of repair works as
well as development projects across the city.
In the meeting, problems related to shortage in the supply of drinking water dominated the discussions.
C.
Rangasamy of CPI, representing Ward 28, requested the administration to
constitute a separate committee to look into the complaints pertaining
to the deficiencies in the supply of drinking water to the residents in
the entire city and address the same in no time.
“Unless
seriousness is accorded to solve the drinking water crisis at least at
this juncture, the problem can go worse in the coming days of the
summer,” he pointed out.
Many councillors raised
complaints that Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation
(Tangedco) officials in the city were ignoring the requests of people as
well as elected representatives to replace the badly damaged electric
posts.
Mrs. Visalakshi assured that the
administration would contact the authorities to take action against the
erring Tangedco officials if they continue to disregard the consumers’
complaints.
Ward 18 councillor Kalaivani (DMK) asked
the Mayor to take steps to dedicate the toilet complex constructed in
the locality to the people immediately.
“Though
construction has been completed three months ago, the facility is yet to
be opened formally for the use of people,” she pointed out.
The council had resolved to send a proposal to the State Government requesting five Amma Canteens to be set up in the city.
The places suggested were at 15 Velampalayam, Kongu Nagar Main Road, Kamarajar Road, Kumaran Commerical Complex and Nallur.
