Maharashtra govt sets up committee to carry out impact analysis of increasing slum tenement size
MUMBAI: The state government has set up a committee to carry out an
Impact Analysis if it decides to increase the size of the free tenement
under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme from the present 29 sq metres (269
sq feet) to 30 sq metres (323 sq feet).
Under the Housing for All scheme of the central government, families
from low income group are entitled to 323 sq feet tenements. In Maharashtra the government has decided to use additional housing stock that is generated from an SRS
for the affordable housing scheme. There has been a demand for bringing
the slum rehab tenement on par with the low income houses. The state
government has agreed in-principle to increase the tenement size.
Sources said this would impact the floor space index that would need
to be made available for the scheme to be viable and impact the civic
infrastructure. The committee will submit its report within three
months.
