Major thrust for civic amenities mooted
The need for supply of drinking water in the city has been increasing
rapidly with the rising population. Estimating its further demand, the
PMC has proposed the construction of a reservoir while increasing the
number of water treatment plants and construction of tunnel from Parvati
water work to cantonment water work to check the leakage.
“The growth of city has been very fast with the population being
on rise due to a lot of development activities. It is the responsibility
of the PMC to provide civic services to meet the public demand.
Hopefully, the implementation of CDP is as per schedule and helps in
satisfying tax payers needs,” said Mayor Chanchala Kodre.
The elected representatives further expressed the need to bring
in changes in CDP as and when required for the growth of city. “The CDP
provides plan of capital investment required for providing civic
facilities. It will help in planned development and raising money for
the same,” said civic CDP draft.
From the proposed Rs 3,693 crore for water supply projects, it
has planned rehabilitation of existing water supply system along with
metering water supply to consumer. For solid waste management, the civic
body has proposed construction of 206 hectare of new landfill site,
three bio-medical based treatment facilities, e-waste treatment plant,
two carcass plant and construction of five whole sale market for
recyclable waste material. The PMC has planned construction of 7,000 new
public toilets across city and improve existing 14,000 public toilets.
The PMC has proposed work of Rs 274 crore which includes
development of 917 hectare of land for bio diversity park and effort to
protect it by constructing 64 km long boundary.
The PMC has proposed to make most out of the rich heritage of
the city by taking up revitalization of Tulshibag and Mahatma Phule
Mandai along with its promotion by introducing nature tourism along 10
km of Mula Mutha river, audio visual show at Lal Mahal.
