Majority of wards in Erode not getting adequate supply of water, say councillors

Water supply issues in the town dominated the meetings of Erode Corporation council held on Tuesday.
Councillors,
cutting across party affiliations, complained that a majority of the
wards in the town were not getting adequate supply of water due to
problems in distribution network. Parimala Rajendran (AIADMK) alleged
that the leaks in the drinking water pipelines remained unplugged for
weeks together. Huge amount of water flows on the road at a time when
many residential colonies in the town are experiencing acute water
shortage.
She also complained that the civic officials were causing inordinate delays in giving new water connections to households.
Thangavel
(AIADMK) said that the frequency of water supply had gone up to more
than three days in many residential areas in his ward. He wanted the
civic administration to initiate efforts on a war footing to ensure
uniform supply of water to all the parts of the town.
Prabhu
(AIADMK) wanted the civic body to clean the overhead water tanks on a
regular basis and ensure the supply of protected drinking water to the
people in the town.
Radhamani Bharathi (Independent)
alleged irregularities in the purchase of garbage collection bins during
the previous DMK regime and wanted the civic body to conduct a probe in
this regard. She claimed that the quality of the bins was poor. She
urged the civic administration to take steps to purchase quality bins
and place them on the streets to ensure proper garbage collection.
Earlier, the council had given its nod for Package V of the UGD project, while postponing its decision on Package II.
The council had also decided to shift the office of the Zone I.
