Makeshift kiosks near Khallikote College evictedPNS | Berhampur
The eviction drive by the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) with the help of the local administration and police continued in the city. On Monday, several makeshift kiosks located near the Khallikote College were removed.
The BMC has started its eviction drive since last few months to widen the National Highway running through the city, control traffic and beautify the city. Several small time businessmen and their families depending have been evicted. But the families have not been rehabilitated yet, as a result of which the families have been living at schools and some temporary sheds. Despite assurance from the local authorities, the rehabilitation process is not being undertaken.
Local people welcome the eviction drive, but they resent, as the administration is not taking any measures for rehabilitation of the evictees.
