BWSSB’s new theme park focusses on water conservation

More than 25 demonstrations on rainwater harvesting, numerous models
that explain the usage and importance of water, recent innovations in
water supply — all this and more will greet visitors to the new
rainwater harvesting theme park in the city.
This theme park, with focus on water conservation, has been developed by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
It is to be named after Sir M. Visvesvaraya, and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on March 21.
First of its kind
Developed on a two-acre land at Jayanagar at a cost of
Rs. 3 crore, the theme park is the first of its kind in the country,
BWSSB officials claim.
Designed to propagate rainwater harvesting and create
awareness about water conservation, the park also showcases the history,
origin and growth of BWSSB.
Models
Among the models on display are the ones explaining how
Cauvery water reaches our homes from 120 km (from Shiva anicut to the
city) through three pumping stations, and how the city’s waste water is
treated at the BWSSB’s sewage treatment plants.
Creative display
The project also has an information centre and an auditorium.
A senior official of the BWSSB said, “Apart from the
documentaries that we have on rainwater harvesting, we are trying to get
some good documentaries made on water. The idea is to showcase and
display various aspects of water in a creative way through visuals and
demonstrations for the common man.”
The amphitheatre here can host cultural events and programs related to water, the official added.
