Mass cleaning drive begins
The Corporation administration on Friday launched an
ambitious project named ‘Aggressive Maintenance and Mass Cleaning at All
Wards’ in an attempt to provide a hygienic and clean living environment
to the people.
Official sources said apart from
taking out cleaning works, the officials would be receiving petitions
from the residents of the respective wards so that grievances pertaining
to lack of basic amenities could be redressed expeditiously.
Some
of the major problems that were confronting the people in general had
been the lapses in the implementation of solid waste management
programme, inadequacy in the distribution of drinking water and clogged
drains.
Under the project, a team of officials would
be visiting wards by rotation and take up works like garbage removal,
bush clearing and drainage cleaning.
Once the entire
60 wards were covered, the officials would get back from Ward 1 again so
as to ensure smooth continuation of the scheme.
Minister
for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment M.SM. Anandan inaugurated
the implementation of the project in the presence of Mayor A.
Visalakshi, Deputy Mayor S. Gunasekaran and councillors of various
wards, at a function held in Ward 1.
