Mass cleaning drive launched

Collector P.Sankar launched a mass cleaning drive in Vellore Corporation on Wednesday.
It is aimed at destroying aedes aegypti mosquitoes and their larva to prevent dengue.
It
was planned to cover Zone-1 of the Corporation including 15 wards on
the first day. One zone would be covered on every day and the whole
Corporation area consisting 60 wards would be covered by July 20.
Flagging
off vehicles involved in the drive at Thara Padavedu, Mr. Sankar said
workers involved in the drive should find and destroy plastic articles,
pottery and tyres etc., where water stagnates.
Poongodi,
Deputy Director (Health Services), said that the drive would also be
carried out in all municipalities, town panchayats and village
panchayats in Vellore district within 30 days. As many as 200 workers
from the Public Health Department and 100 workers from the Corporation
have been involved in the programme.
Mayor P. Karthiyayini, Corporation Commissioner Janaki, and senior entomologist Gopalarathinam participated.
