New seating facilities for the benefit of passengers at the Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand were inaugurated on Friday.
Mayor
V.V. Rajan Chellappa inaugurated the facility in the presence of
Corporation Commissioner R. Nanthagopal, and managing trustee of Arogya
Welfare Trust, K.V. Balasubramanian. The facility was donated by the
trust, which is promoted by TVS group of companies.
The trust has spent Rs. 15 lakh on the facility, which can accommodate 500 passengers.
The
Commissioner said that auto-rickshaws have been moved out of the bus
stand premises and landscaping could be done on the low-lying area for
setting up of an auto-stand.
Besides, the Corporation
has plans to make all the 13 pay and use public toilets at the bus
stand free for the benefit of the passengers and bus crew.
