MAWS secretary inspects road works
CHENNAI: The principal secretary, Municipal Administration
and Water Supply department, K Ashok Vardhan Shetty, on Wednesday night
inspected the progress of road-relaying works in several areas taken up
under the state’s special road project 2010-2011.
He inspected
the works at Ethiraj Sami Salai, Dr Ambedkar College Road, Basin
Bridge-Elephant Gate Road, Jermiah Road, Kaliamman Koil Street, Valluvar
Kottam High Road, Velachery Main Road and P S Kumarasamy Raja Salai and
Rukmani Lakshmipathy Salai in Egmore. Shetty also launched milling of
Dr Muthulakhsmi Salai in Tiruvanmiyur. The cold-milling exercise is done
wherever possible.
The secretary directed the officials to
expedite the process of settling bills submitted by the contractors to
facilitate smooth flow of work. The state had released Rs 60 crore
towards road improvement works for about 146 km and the local body had
made use of Rs 57 crore from its capital fund reserve, an official
release said.
The AIADMK’s south Chennai unit, following a call
made by general secretary J Jayalalithaa, held a demonstration in
Saidapet on Tuesday protesting against the corporation’s failure to
repair roads damaged in the recent rains and putting the public to
hardship.
