Mayor adjourns council meet for Kalam
This made the Congress councillors start a protest against Padmaraju.
Amid the chaos, Nataraj allowed nine projects to be passed, worth more than `28.32 crore.
The projects are signal-free corridors, road-widening in Bank Colony, railway level crossing between Whitefield and K R Puram, among others.
The mayor adjourned the meeting for lunch and when the meeting resumed, Opposition parties demanded action against Padmaraju for his remarks.
Not paying any heed to the requests, the mayor asked the ruling party leader to read out the approved subjects.
As soon as the subjects were read out, the mayor adjourned the meeting and left for the function.
Taking note of Padmaraju’s comment on Munirathna, Opposition leader Nagaraj cited section 81 (1) of the Karnataka Municipal Act, 1976, and said no reference could be made to any cases that were pending in court.
Calling Nataraj a “BJP mayor” and not a “Palike mayor”, he said his party had requested BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah to re-evaluate the subjects that were passed without discussion.
It may be noted that the mayor had not gone to receive the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, even though it was his obligation to do so.
MINUTES OF THE MEETING
A wasteful day
Thursday proved to be another unproductive day for the Palike, which spends more than Rs 4 lakh on each meeting. Councillors spent the early part of the day discussing subjects that were not even tabled in the council.
For occupancy certificates
Allaying doubts on occupancy rights, Palike Commissioner Siddaiah said the Bangalore Development Authority had the right to issue occupancy certificates only where they had given the commencement certificates. The mayor said he had written to the chief minister, requesting that the right to issue these certificates be kept with the Palike.
The dengue debate
Siddaiah said private hospitals were declaring dengue cases without the required tests. He denied that there were any dengue deaths in the city.
