Mayor, councillors demand GCC Commissioner’s transfer
Special Correspondent
GULBARGA: Mayor Sunanda Rajaram and Deputy Mayor Sajjad Ali, along with chairpersons of the four standing committees in the Gulbarga City Corporation, have threatened to resign en masse if the State Government did not transfer Commissioner of the city corporation Manoj Jain immediately.
Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, they alleged that the Commissioner was acting like a dictator and did not consult them before taking important decisions.
Mr. Ali charged that the Commissioner had disrespected the Mayor and Deputy Mayor by not inviting them to official functions. For example, on October 2, the Commissioner had organised a function to distribute tricycles for house-to-house collection of garbage in 12 wards, but the Mayor and Deputy Mayor had been kept in the dark about the programme, he said.
“The Commissioner has scant respect for elected representatives,” he said.
The Deputy Mayor said that the Commissioner was not forthcoming with information about how funds provided for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were used. The commissioner had also allegedly not cleared the payment of medical bills under the funds reserved for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Applications seeking assistance for pursuing higher education were also pending before the Commissioner, Mr. Ali said.
“The Commissioner is anti-Dalit and we will not rest till he is removed,” the Mayor and Deputy Mayor declared. They would submit a detailed chargesheet against the Commissioner to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during his visit to Gulbarga on Monday, they said.
