Chandigarh: The civic problems of disposal of construction waste, condition of green belts and the development of colonies were discussed in a meeting of nominated councillors with the mayor on Monday.Mayor Anu Chatrath has held meetings with elected councillors throughout last week to review development projects in all wards in the city. Today, the nominated councillors put forth their suggestions.
They said the problem of construction waste needed to be dealt with. Heaps of rubble can be seen dumped in most sectors.
Brig K S Chandpuri (Retd) said the the construction waste had not been removed from areas where roads have been widened. This is causing inconvenience to residents and the problem needed urgent redressal.
The development of colonies was another issue that was highlighted. The councillors claimed that the conditions in colonies was deplorable and not liveable.
Councillor M P S Chawla said, “We raised the issue of having a complaint centre for residents. There could be a common complaint centre for the UT Administration and the Municipal Corporation as it is difficult for residents to know which function is with whom. The division of expenses could be decided.”
The councillors also suggested the need for increasing parking space in the city. With the rising number of vehicles, there is a crisis in both residential and commercial areas in the city.
