Mayor inaugurates mass fast
The newly-elected Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation Mayor K Chandrika, also an advocate, did not hide her excitement when she inaugurated the mass hunger strike organised in connection with the 1,000th day of the agitation in front of the main entrance of the Vanchiyoor District Court on Wednesday.
The mass hunger strike was organised by the High Court Bench Agitation Council under the auspices of Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association. It was also the first public engagement she attended after being sworn in as the City Corporation Mayor.
Chandrika extended the full support of the City Corporation to the agitation. She said that the Corporation would exert pressure on the State and Central governments by repeatedly urging them to intensify the steps for the reinstatement of the High Court Bench.
Former Member of Parliament Pannian Raveendran, Varkala Kahar MLA, CPI district secretary and senior advocate P Ramachandran Nair, DCC general secretary advocate G Gopidas, FRAT representative advocate Paraniyam Devakumar, Vanchiyoor ward councillor advocate Sindhu, various political leaders and senior advocates addressed the gathering during the inauguration, presided over by Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association president Konchira G Neelakantan Nair. Advocates, advocates’ clerks, different socio-political leaders and even common people participated in the mass hunger strike.
