Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation will celebrate Teej on August 21. The decision was taken at the meeting of the Arts and Culture Committee held today. It was decided that senior citizens would be honoured on the occasion. The event would be held at Leisure Valley opposite Fragrance Garden in Sector 36.Meanwhile, after the tussle between councillors in the Arts and Culture Committee of the Municipal Corporation a few days ago, some changes have been brought about in the constitution of the committee. Deputy Mayor Sheela Devi has been replaced by councillor Manjit Singh Chohan. She has been shifted to the House Tax committee. It is being stated that the change has been brought about after councillor Harjinder Kaur raised certain issues in the meeting. In order to have a stronger opposition, Chohan has been inducted into the committee.
Chairman of the committee Brig K S Chandpuri (retd) said rich cultural tradition would be presented through renowned Punjabi artist Dolly Guleria and her troupe.
As part of the meeting discussion was also held on the community centres in the city. A proposal was mooted that the community centres should also be allowed to hold weddings. This was opposed by a certain section of the councillors who felt that this would lead to chaos as community centres were located near residential areas.
A final decision is yet to be taken. A team led by Brig Chandpuri had earlier prepared a report about the community centres in the city and the changes that were required.
