D Venkatesh Murthy, who is enjoying the privilege of being the
longest serving Mayor, is likely to present the Bruhat Bangalore
Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) budget for the year 2013-14.
The Mayor
will meet District-in-charge Minister R Ramalinga Reddy along with BBMP
Commissioner M Lakshminarayana on Wednesday to discuss about various
issues including new garbage tender and BBMP budget. Murthy said he is
likely to present the budget. “The state government has sought a legal
opinion and I heard there are no legal hurdles. When there is an elected
body in the Council, officials will have no power to present the
budget. The Standing Committee too does not have the power. The state
government might give special permission and I will present the
budget,” he said. When asked about the details, the Mayor said CM
Siddaramaiah will present the state budget on Friday.
“On
Wednesday, if the CM agrees to the presentation of the BBMP budget, we
will issue a notice immediately. According to Karnataka Municipal
Corporation Act, we have to serve a notice seven days prior to the
budget presentation. We are likely to present the budget next week,” he
said.
