Mayors, chiefs of municipal bodies can’t be removed
JAIPUR: The state government on Thursday issued an ordinance amending various sections of the Rajasthan Municipalities Act, 2009, including doing away with the provision (section 53) of bringing a no-confidence motion againist mayors and chairpersons of municipal bodies. At the same time, a provision has been added to create a fund for providing basic amenities to the poor and keeping one-fourth of the municipality’s budget for this purpose.
Amending section 73 of the Act, it has been provisioned that if a municipal body comes up with a residential scheme, it will have to provide 20% of the total plots to the lower income group people at a concessional rate. Section 103 has been modified to increase revenue generation opportunities for the municipal bodies by giving them 10% of the stamp duty on registries.
