Mayor’s Tamil Nadu formula for RAY
Special Correspondent
Mayor Mohd. Majid Hussain has mooted collecting only 10
per cent of the cost from beneficiaries, and the rest will be borne by
Central and State Governments for slum redevelopment projects under the
Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) as is done in Tamil Nadu.
At a
meeting with officials of the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in
Municipal Areas (MEPMA) and the GHMC, he was told by RAY’s regional
coordinator that the slums redevelopment programme was progressing
rapidly in Tamil Nadu once the government there took up 40 per cent
contribution.
The Mayor asked officials to prepare
detailed project reports. Women self-help groups should be involved
while preparing the reports, he said and wanted works in slums at
Attapur, Shivarampally, Addagutta and Ismail Nagar to be taken up soon.
The survey of slums of Narsimha basthi, Ambedkar Nagar, IDH Colony and
New Indira Nagar at Kapra has already commenced, Engineer-in-chief R.
Dhan Singh said.
