MC Marathon tomorrow
The Municipal Marathon-2009 will be held on Sunday at the Sector-7 Sports Complex. The run will be held for various age groups. Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria inspected the routes of the marathon on Friday.
The distance for the open category is 12 km for both men and women. For boys and girls under 16 years and men between 45 to 60 years and women between 45 to 55 years, the distance would be 4 km. In the senior citizen category, a distance of 1.5 km is to be covered.
Dr Neelam Malik, chairperson of the Arts, Sports and Culture committee of the MC, said participants will be given T-shirts and refreshments at the end. Residents and students of the tricity are eligible to participate in the run. Entries will be accepted between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday in the Sports Complex, Sector 7.
Proof of age from all participants and a medical fitness certificate from those above 50 years of age will be required at the time of registration. A special 800 meters run for men and 400 meters run for women councillors, officers and employees of the Municipal Corporation will also be held.
