MC meet fails to decide on water tariff hike
CHANDIGARH: The municipal corporation meeting attended by Congress councillors and the engineering wing officials and convened by mayorAnu Chatrath on Thursday on the increase of water tariff failed to arrive at any consensus.
Sources said Congress councillors demanded records pertaining to the water charges and details of consumption in all areas in the city. However, as the civic body officials failed to produce these, the meet has been scheduled for Friday.
The Congress party members were ready to accept the hike, provided it was reasonable. Besides, the poor should be kept out of its ambit, sources added.
The mayor had withdrawn the agenda item pertaining to the hike in tariff before the July general house meeting, following the consensus of Congress councillors. But, it was decided to table it in the general house meeting to be held later this month.
