MC to hold meeting today

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation will take up the issue of extension of license fee for taxi stands in the city, besides laying paver blocks at various places in Sector 17 and other parts of the city in the Finance and Control Committee meeting scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the MC will discuss and approve laying of paver blocks on road berms in Sector 45-C at the cost of around Rs 32.36 lakh, on the road-side from Hotel Shivalikview to Hotel Taj at a cost of Rs 30.64 lakh, around parking lots in Manimajra at the cost of Rs 32.03 lakh; and in Pocket A, Sector 38 (West) at the cost of Rs 28.82 lakh. Besides the paver blocks, the issues of installing two tubewells for feeding water works in Sector 31 and 32 shall also be taken up during the meeting.
The issue of the ongoing revamping and recarpeting work of the Sector-17 Plaza, which got mired with the cement scam, is also likely to be discussed during the meeting. The contractor, who was assigned the work of recarpeting the Plaza in Sector 17 was caught by the UT vigilance for allegedly using pilfered cement. The work, which initially got stalled due to the scam, has now been restarted and Municipal Corporation is completing the same.
