MCC approves integrated bulk water supply scheme
The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) council on Tuesday
approved the Rs. 327-crore integrated bulk water supply scheme for
Mysore proposed near Hale Undavadi, around 2 km upstream of the
Krishnaraja Sagar, under the transition phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru
National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The scheme has been planned keeping in view the drinking water needs of Mysore city for the next 30 years.
The
Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board had submitted the
proposal based on suggestions from authorities at the JNNURM office, New
Delhi.
MCC Commissioner P.G. Ramesh told
The Hindu
a detailed project report would be submitted to the Centre through the State agencies for final approval under JNNURM.
Earlier,
the councillors took officials to task for “not properly estimating the
costs for some projects, particularly drinking water projects, under
JNNURM.” When an official admitted “lapse” in the estimates, the
councillors questioned the seriousness of the officials in preparing the
proposals. The council decided to seek grants for bearing the costs
(contribution from the corporation as stipulated) from the government
towards the projects whose cost estimates had escalated.
