MCC asked to take up road repair
Even as officials have begun asphalting some stretches
of roads in the city, Mayor Lingappa convened a meeting of officials of
Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and directed them to take up works in all
roads.
The Mayor’s direction comes in the wake of the deplorable condition of most roads.
Speaking to
The Hindu
, Mr. Lingappa said contracts had been awarded for taking up road repair
works in each ward. Though he refused to set a deadline for completion
of works, Mr. Lingappa said efforts were under way to complete the
repair works as early as possible.
Asphalting of
roads was recently carried out on Vishwa Manava Double Road, Narayana
Shastri Road leading to Nanjumalige and Kukkarahalli Lake road. But,
about 250 stretches of the roads in the city, including arterial
thoroughfares as well as lanes and bylanes, were awaiting repairs since
Dasara festival in September-October.
The MCC
officials had put off the repairs in view of the rains that lashed the
city intermittently despite widespread complaints from the general
public and road users.
Mr. Lingappa said tenders had invited and contracts awarded for both asphalting as well as patchworks, wherever necessary.
It
may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had released Rs.
5 crore for road repair works ahead of the Dasara, but the civic
authorities were unable to complete the works due to rains.
