MCC Commissioner issues notices to three engineers
Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Harish Kumar K.
said on Tuesday that he had issued show-cause notice to three engineers
of the corporation in connection with the alleged manual scavenging
reported in the city recently.
Mr. Kumar told
presspersons on the sidelines of the meeting of the corporation council
that notices were served on M. Ramesh, Executive Engineer; R. Ganeshan,
Assistant Executive Engineer; and Anil Kumar, Junior Engineer; on
November 26.
The Commissioner said of them show cause
notices had been issued to Mr. Ganeshan and Mr. Anil Kumar for the
second time on November 28 as replies given by them to the first notices
were not satisfactory.
He said the police had registered a
suo motu
case on the incident. The two engineers were given show- cause notices
for the second time as there were contradictions in the replies given by
them when compared to contents in the First Information Report filed by
the police.
Mr. Kumar said he had asked the Joint
Commissioner of the corporation Srikant Rao to submit a report. He would
act based on the report and replies received from the two engineers.
The
Commissioner said the contractor who had employed the worker who was
allegedly made to do manual scavenging had filed a complaint with the
police stating that a photograph of the worker doing manual scavenging
had been forcibly taken by someone.
Meanwhile, the
Joint Commissioner had submitted his report to the Commissioner in a
sealed cover late on Tuesday, sources in the corporation told
